Android Nougat 7.1.2 Brings New Features to Pixel C Tablet and Pixel Smartphones

Google has rolled out the latest version of Android, the Nougat version 7.1.2 to Pixel C tablets and the Pixel smartphones. The company has always focused strongly on their phone and tablet lineup. All the Nexus devices in the past used to receive the latest and greatest Android first. The trend continues in 2017 but with more models receiving the vanilla treatment at the earliest. Motorola is a great example as the company’s phones were always quick to receive newer Android versions and older devices get the support at least for two years so that they don’t sound outdated quickly. With the newest Nougat, the Pixel C tablet looks a lot like the Pixel phones. The overall user interface design now has the circular buttons, blue grey color management scheme combined with all the features that make the operating system a worthy upgrade. The most important of them all is the ability to use multi-tasking menu providing users the option to browse through 8 different apps that are open and use them simultaneously. Buy Factory Unlocked Google Pixel 128 GB  Buy Factory Unlocked Google Pixel 32 GB Any user who gets to see the Pixel C will instantly recognize that it resembles a lot of design elements similar to the smartphone and the color, material design makes it more appealing than it already is. Google swayed away from the highly affordable Nexus lineup of tablets and smartphones to make an expensive Pixel lineup. They may not have the same impact as the amazing devices from the past but they do give a better competition to Apple’s premium devices. With the update, there is no direct button to open the app drawer. The feature is pretty nifty as it diverts users from the usual click to open to a more sophisticated method. Just swipe your finger from bottom to top on the screen to open the app drawer and it should pop up in a jiffy, considering how powerful the hardware specifications on the tablet is. The company rolled out a testing phase for the Android Nougat 7.1.2 after which it was rolled out to Pixel tablets and smartphones. There is no word on when Google plans to bring it to other devices. The update also changes the Android logo in both the Pixel and the Nexus 6 smartphones. Pixel C tablet is yet to make a huge impact in the tablet market but considering the price, it may not be a Nexus 7 but rather a premium tablet like the Apple iPad Air...

Makeover for Google Hangouts, Should Slack Be Worried?

Google Hangouts is getting a major overhaul and it is beginning to sound a lot like another workplace chat application, namely Slack. Google has announced that the Hangouts platform will be separated into two separate identities, namely the Hangouts Meet and the Hangouts Chat. Two Entities The Hangouts Meet will be used for video conferences, whereas the Hangouts Chat will be for workplace messaging and communication. A Lot Like Slack According to Google, the Hangouts Chat will be an application that reflects the modern way of talking business. This makes it sound a lot like Slack, but it is still too early to decide whether Slack should be worried about this. Slack has more than four million active users on a daily basis. However, there is a worrying thought, as even Facebook has recently come up with a workplace application. New Wrinkles The Hangouts Chat and the Hangouts Meet are the two new wrinkles coming to Google Hangouts. It seems very clear that the Hangouts Chat is coming after Slack, whereas the Meet is more about audio and video conferences and communication. The two can be said to be business counterparts for the Allo and the Duo apps. Meet is now available, whereas Hangouts Chat will be going into the early access programs of the company. The presently available Hangouts app will still be hanging around, but not for long. Hangouts Chat The Hangouts Chat focuses on team messages. It will be available for the web as well as for Android and iOS devices. It will come with room, just like Slack. There will be conversation threads, which is very important in chat conversations and which Slack doesn’t still have. The conversation threads were an important part of the application and were the cause of the delay in launching the new Hangouts Chat, according to Drive Scott Johnston, the product management director at Google. The Hangouts Chat also has Google’s services as a part of it, so when one user shares files in a room, all members will be able to access it. Third Parties Apart from Google services, there will also be access to a third party service, so developers can bring in scripts that are based on the script of Google Applications for conducting different tasks. Hangouts Meet The Hangouts Meet was seen in a short appearance at the Google PlayStore in February. It makes meetings a lot easier. The whole meeting cycle can be atomized, right from creating agendas and follow-ups to the same. Getting into meetings will be that much easier, with just a click, for both audio and video meetings. The app works without...

Google Pixel and Pixel XL Phones are Facing a New Problem – Failing Microphones

Hardware problems in smartphones are pretty high these days and Google Pixel, Pixel XL phones are no different. The brand’s premium smartphones are giving a hard time for customers as its microphones are failing in select devices. If the issue was faced by tens of customers, it may not be something to worry about. However, there are over 800 replies in the Google forum at the moment. All of them unanimously claim that there is no audio input in their respective Pixel or Pixel XL phones. Some users have reported that one or all of their microphones have failed. The problem varied from one device to another. Users report that it worked with their camera app when recording a video. The same didn’t work when making phone calls or a voice recording app. As complaints pile up, Google support executives didn’t waste any time and tried to give all possible explanations as to why it would happen. The Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones have three different microphones integrated in it. One of them is the phone input while the other two works as ambient mics. It could also be caused if the soldering done in the hairline crack has lost its connection to the phone’s motherboard. The phone’s current temperature and grip used could also cause temporary issues. Some users tried to make it work by heating it up with a hair dryer. It is not advisable as it could cause irrevocable damage to the hardware. Based on all the comments and support team’s reply, the problem seems to be hardware based and there is no easy way to fix it. Google suggested that users with faulty Pixel or Pixel XL phones can send their device to the company’s authorized center. The devices were launched recently and all of them are covered under warranty. The support executives suggest that they will fix the hardware or will provide new devices based on the severity of the problem. The company also added that only one percent of the user base is affected by this problem. It could also been caused when the users accidentally drop the device. The customer support team also suggests that if the microphone issue persists in their replacement device, the Pixel or Pixel XL owner should get it replaced immediately. Google plans to look into the complaints and find if it is found on more than the expected one percent of their customer...
