Nokia 6 is reportedly receiving an OTA update of the Android Nougat 7.1.1 version.
Nokia 6 is the first phone of HMD Global, a Nokia branded Finland based company. HMD Global had claimed previously that it would offer regular updates for its Nokia smartphones running on Android.
The Android Soul states that the update offered for the Nokia 6 smartphone, at present available only in China and some other regions, is around 369 MB.
Though the weight of the update is only 369 MB, users will need at least 620 MB of free storage for installing the Nougat 7.1.1 version update on their Nokia 6. The update comes with a build number of 00CN_3_170 and it will offer the version 7.1.1 of Android for the Nokia phone. The update will also include the security patch of Android for the month of April 2017. With the security improvements, many security vulnerabilities will be removed. There will also be bug fixes and overall improvements made to the system with the 7.1.1 update.
Nokia Specific Update
There will also be some other changes added with the update, with these changes being specific for the Nokia device. This will be in the form of improvements to the power saving features of the phone and features for managing the background, support for double SIM and a dual standby feature for both the 4G and the 3G networks. An update is also being added for the USB drivers of the device and for some apps that come pre loaded on the phone.
With the installation of the Android 7.1.1 Nougat on the Nokia 6, users will be able to use the launch actions on applications offering support for shortcuts, from the homescreen itself. Users can express themselves more efficiently and make use of more emojis and lots more.
HMD Global has also stated that there are plans for launching the global version of the device some time during the spring this year. The launch will also be made in the US. In May, the company will be launching the Nokia 3 and the Nokia 5, which are the lower end versions of the smartphone. All versions, the Nokia 6 as well as the Nokia 3 and the Nokia 5 will come with the stock Android loaded on it and all of them will get regular and quick updates.
Fulfilling its Promise
It is nice to see that the Finnish manufacturer is fulfilling its promises. The update for the Nokia 6 is a creditable one, as it is one of the few smartphones that run on the Android 7.1.1 version currently. The company had promised at the global launch held at the MWC 2016 that the device would get regular updates. However, the update will be rolled out as an OTA, so there is no need to panic if you have not yet received a notification. Users can also check out the update manually by accessing the settings and software update sections on their phones. The phone must be charged to at least 50% before you start updating to the latest Android 7.1.1 version.
